UCO BASED OKLAHOMA A+ SCHOOLS® TO HOST STATEWIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE

Educators and community members are invited to join OK A+ Schools on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at Moore Norman Technology Center, S. Penn Campus for a day of professional development, networking, and creative connections at the fourth annual Statewide Conference, Integration: Weaving Strands of Learning.

This year’s OK A+ Statewide Conference brings exciting changes to its format. With the overarching concept of Vital Elements, both on-site and online opportunities will be included in participants’ registration fee. Then, the OK A+ Statewide Conference online sessions will be available only to conference participants following Sept. 12, anywhere Internet is available.

“We are excited to connect our statewide network through technology and bring creative conversations to our participants that wouldn’t otherwise be available,” said OK A+ Program Director Rosalynn Wade.

Wade said the on site and online format will further extend opportunities for PK-12 grade educators to share classroom ideas and best practices through interactive workshop and Web 2.0 environments.

Registration opens July 10, 2009, at www.aplusok.org, and closes Sept. 10, 2009. Registration costs $60 for non-network members and $50 for OK A+ School network members, which includes seven7 hours of professional development and access to both on-site and online conference components.

On site, conference participants will weave experiential learning with curriculum connections for PK-12th grade classrooms. Each on-site conference session will be facilitated by OK A+ Fellows and OK A+ Partners, including professional artists and educators. The conference includes networking opportunities with educational professionals across the state. Companies, organizations and individuals focused on student-centered learning will be present as exhibitors throughout the day.

The online conference component includes Armchair Conversations with creativity expert and author Sir Ken Robinson, Olympic champion and Oklahoma Creativity Ambassador Bart Conner, and jazz artist, educator and author Howard Hanger. This web 2.0 environment will provide many opportunities to connect with other educators, both in and out of the OK A+ Network.
